SUMMARY:Cardiff Polyphonic Choir: Requiem: Gabriel Fauré and Maurice Duruflé
DESCRIPTION:Saturday 16 March\, 7.30 pm\, St Augustine’s Church\, Penarth \nThese two lovely settings by French composers are separated by nearly sixty years. The Fauré was first heard in Paris at the church of the Madeleine in 1888 (the year before John Singer Sargent’s painting of Fauré\, above). Duruflé’s Requiem was also premiered in Paris\, in 1947. \nWe’re delighted to be back in St Augustine’s. The church’s acoustics and 1895 William Hill organ will be ideally suited for works by composers who were also renowned organists. We’re delighted that David Geoffrey Thomas will be playing for us both in Penarth and in our second performance\, which will be the following Saturday\, 23 March in St Katharine Cree Church in London as part of the Brandenburg Choral Festival of London.
