Monteverdi Vespers – Comments by the Chair

I couldn’t let this concert go by without writing a few words. What an experience!

Llandaff Cathedral was the perfect venue, so atmospheric and with wonderful acoustics. The soloists were amazing, and their youth brought a real vibrancy to their performances. The musicians, particularly His Majesty’s Sagbutts and Cornets, sounded incredible. And of course WE did so well! After all the rehearsals, we tackled it with pleasure and confidence. It all made for the most fantastic experience!

Of course, we have to say a massive thank you to Dave, who brought it all together with such passion, musical finesse and joy, ensuring the sublime blend of orchestra, soloists and choir. It couldn’t have been better. Also what a wonderful audience (and so large!).

Thank you to Tim for all his hard work on publicity and marketing. Thank you too to Rachel for the work on the website and Judith (in Australia) for her poster design.

Also to Heather for always ensuring that we have all the up to date information.

Not forgetting a special thank you to Sian as well. It all went so well – down to her organisation and management. She deals so well with those last minute problems, finding solutions with no fuss and always keeping a smile on her face. The choir is lucky to have her managing things.

The perfect evening! Thank you so much to all involved.

Summer concert

Venue for summer concert still unconfirmed, but possibly St German’s.  Date still likely to be 13th July 2019. It was noted that this would be a more substantial concert, in terms of programme, than the previous summer concert.

Choir membership (LOA, leavers, new members)

Leavers:

LOA – Rod Britton, Nia Evans, Anna Davies, Marilyn & Alan Thomas, Judith Dray.

New members

Berlin Collaboration October 2019

It was decided that a sub-committee be set up to deal with the arrangements, especially the arrangements for the German orchestra coming here. Iain volunteered to head this sub-committee, with help from Siwan. Further volunteers to be requested from the choir.

Website/Publicity

The members area of the website is being developed. It is envisaged that lots of useful information regarding choir business be available on this part of the website, so choristers could check any details regarding concerts etc quickly and easily. Standard policy documents would also be placed here.

It was noted that publicity for the Vespers concert had gone well, resulting in a nearly full cathedral.

Return after Christmas/AGM

The first rehearsal back after Christmas would be Thursday 10th January 2019.

The AGM to be held on 17th January 2019, in the second half of the rehearsal. Agenda to be circulated to choristers in the New Year.

Possible tour next October

It is looking likely that this will go ahead. The German orchestra are looking to come to Wales on 4th October 2019. Two concerts here, of Elijah, possibly joint with other choirs, on 10th October in Hoddinott Hall and 12th October in St David’s Cathedral. We would travel to Berlin on 26th October for the return performance of Elijah on the 27th October in the Berlin Philarmonie. (This would be half-term.) More details to come as they are confirmed.
