This Classical Extravaganza Prom with feature an evening of favourite music by the world’s greatest composers.
It will commence with the Overture from Rossini’s Barber of Seville and excerpts from Smetana’s Bartered Bride and music by, among others Brahms, Mendelssohn, Fauré and Dvořák.
The choral items will include the rousing ‘Hallelujah Chorus’ from Handel’s Messiah, one of the most famous pieces of Baroque choral music, and a huge hit with last year’s audience who followed tradition by standing throughout the performance. The evening will conclude with the climactic ‘Ode to Joy’ from Beethoven’s monumental Choral Symphony No 9, celebrating 250 years since the composer’s birth.
