The focal point on our Christmas concert this year will be Britten’s iconic Ceremony of Carols, arranged for SATB choir and accompanied on the harp. This piece is, for many, one of the most festive sounds imaginable. It holds a special place in our hearts as a choir. We had planned to perform it in December 2021, but sadly, Covid restrictions made that impossible. We cannot wait to share the festive joy of this work with you this year.
Alongside the Ceremony of Carols, we will be singing pieces by William Mathias, Alan Hoddinot, Mansel Thomas, Felix Mendelssohn, Gottfried Wolters, Judith Weir, and what we believe to be the UK premier of a piece by Slovenian composer, Gašper Jereb.
There will also be opportunities to sing-along to some well-loved Christmas carols to help you get into the Christmas spirit!
We’ll be conducted by Thomas Blunt, with Philip Aspden on organ and Elen Hydref on harp.
