Cardiff Polyphonic Choir presents a Lenten‑inspired evening of powerful choral music, featuring Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle, Brahms’ Geistliches Lied, and Sarah Macdonald’s Crux Fidelis.
Despite its title, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle is anything but small or solemn. Written late in Rossini’s life, it bursts with energy, colour, and theatrical flair. While the text is that of the traditional mass, the music has a distinctly operatic spirit: exuberant, dramatic, and unmistakably Rossini.
Complementing the Petite Messe are Brahms’ serene and luminous Geistliches Lied, and Sarah Macdonald’s evocative Crux Fidelis, creating a programme that moves between contemplation, intensity, and joy.
Join us for an evening where sacred music comes alive with colour, passion, and expressive depth.
