Our concert celebrates summer, nature and birds with a choral programme perfect for a summer’s evening.
From the pastoral charm of Edward Elgar’s From the Bavarian Highlands, inspired by his travels and evoking alpine landscapes, to the fresh, contemporary brightness of Iain James Veitch’s Summer Days, this concert combines music that champions the natural world.
The programme also showcases choral gems spanning centuries. Lyrical and intimate works for upper voices include Cornysh’s tender Ah, Robin, Gentle Robin and Elgar’s delicate Fly singing bird, while Stanford’s much-loved The Bluebird offers one of the most serene and atmospheric depictions of nature in choral repertoire. Romantic warmth shines through Elgar’s Spanish Serenade and Barber’s radiant Sure on This Shining Night, while Vaughan Williams’ sublime Serenade to Music brings the evening to a glowing conclusion, blending poetry and harmony in a tribute to music itself.
This concert will be conducted by Thomas Blunt, with Catherine Milledge at the piano, and features four outstanding soloists: Joelene Griffith, Helen Jarmany, Gareth Morris, and Owain Browne.
